  • Y9 Teen Read

    Published 14/03/25

Another highly successful Teen Read Trip! The author was GREAT!!! And our students seemed to really relate to him. Their behaviour was also exemplary and we were even treated to a special tour of the school library, which they all enjoyed. Thank you so much for making trips like this happen. They are greatly inspiring for this group and they are actually READING!!!

Student feedback below and author pic below that.

Izabella: I loved this Teen Read trip - John Silver [the author we met] was amazing and truly inspirational. He persuaded me, with seemingly no effort, to buy BOTH of his books because they just sounded excellent.  I had them signed and the two books I bought were called Happy Head and Dead Happy, and I haven't even started reading them, yet I already want another book by the author called Trauma Land. I would definitely tell people to at least research these books a bit to see what they are about, and if it's your thing, then you should definitely try them!

Venshin: The Teen Read trip to Isleworth and Syon School was great. The teachers were nice and friendly. The author we met was kind and funny, not to mention relatable. The experience was great and eye-opening. I am excited to read the book by the author and hope to go on more trips soon.

Shazil: The trip was very fun and interesting. The author was very kind and his books were very traumatic. I liked this trip.

Aidan Kelly: The trip was interesting and cool. The author was kind and kind of funny!

Jasmine: It was very enjoyable. I found the book quite interesting and to find out what he went through in life and how he didn't let that stop his creativity and how he kept his book despite others telling him he should change the plot and character. So, overall, it was good, and I would like to go again if I get the chance.

Kacper: This school trip was very interesting with a lot of information about the books and why the author specifically chose those genres of books.

Snehdeep: It was really enjoyable and the books for the show were interesting. The author was nice and the presentation was good.

  • Mock Magistrate Workshop 11 February

    Published 14/03/25

Each year, a Mock Magistrate competition is held for schools across London. This event helps young people understand how the law impacts various aspects of their lives and provides insight into how the legal justice system functions. As part of the competition, students receive resources, including a specially written criminal case, to assist in preparing their legal arguments.

On 11 February Magistrate Mr. Harris visited our Mock Magistrate, where he shared valuable advice and insights to help my peers and me prepare for the mock magistrates’ trial. His guidance allowed us to develop a deeper understanding of how legal cases unfold in real-life courtrooms.

Mr. Harris answered a wide range of questions, explaining everything clearly to ensure we knew what to expect. He took the time to provide detailed responses, making his explanations precise and easy to understand. Personally, I found his advice incredibly helpful, as he addressed all the questions I had in mind and clarified the responsibilities of each role within the trial. He was patient and considerate, frequently using examples from past trials to help us grasp key concepts.

He also advised us on what we should and shouldn’t do to succeed in the mock trial, reassuring us that even if we didn’t reach the finals, our hard work and dedication would still be recognised with a certificate. His guidance was highly beneficial, offering my fellow participants and me valuable support. I especially appreciated how he covered a wide range of topics, such as the roles of prosecution and defence teams, cross-examination, and examination-in-chief, as well as the dos and don'ts of courtroom proceedings.

Overall, Mr. Harris’s visit was an enriching experience that provided us with a strong understanding of legal proceedings. His patience and approachability ensured that everyone felt comfortable and well-prepared, especially those considering a future in law. We are now excited and ready for the first round of the competition, which will take place on March 15 at Wilsden Court.

  • Peter Radford Exam Skills Workshop

    Published 10/03/25

The exam skill workshop delivered by Peter Radford was incredibly useful and successful, providing Year 11 and 13 students with practical strategies and insights to improve their exam performance. Peter’s engaging approach helped students understand how to manage their time effectively, structure their responses clearly, and tackle challenging questions with confidence. His emphasis on active revision techniques and stress management was particularly valuable, equipping students with tools to handle both the academic and psychological demands of exams. Overall, the workshop’s clear, actionable advice and interactive style made it an invaluable resource for students aiming to boost their exam readiness.

"On Thursday we spent time working with Peter Radford to help us in the run-up to the exams. It was great to work with him and the rest of my year group thinking about the future and what motivates me to do well in my exams. He talked about different famous people who had put lots of effort into achieving their goals, like Mo Farah. He explained how we could revise our subjects at home through revision tasks like ‘vivid imagery’, which is where you can connect important knowledge to an image to help you remember it." Maria Beigi [11B]

"During the Year 11 exam session I was able to reflect on my future and what I want to achieve. I specifically found it helpful to work with Peter Radford on different revision methods. One revision method that I will be using in the next 7 weeks is ‘Reducing Text’. This is where you take long, detailed information and reduce it down to a maximum of 6 bullet points. I will also be trying to use the ‘4-way repetition method’, which means I will be reviewing all my revisions far by reading, making notes, hearing them and speaking about them." Matas Luksas [11Y]

"I enjoyed the session with Peter Radford because it was something different that I hadn’t experienced before. It made me think differently about my future and my ambitions and has been useful in helping me make the final drive towards my GCSEs. I liked that he made us think about our goals in the future, because it is really important. Also, we looked at different methods to help us with preparing for the upcoming exams which I will use at home. Overall, this was a good use of my time to help me prepare for my public exams." • Year 11 Food GCSE Practical Examination

    Published 04/03/25

For our Food Preparation and Nutrition GCSE practical examination, we had to plan and cook three dishes that were for a school canteen and had an international theme.

This practical makes up 35% of our exam and allows us to apply our knowledge and skills learnt over the last two years into practice. We had to have very good time management and ensure our three recipes preparation, cook time and plating skills fit into 3 hours with a 45-minute preparation window. We had to learn the skills of how to manage time correctly by dovetailing the three recipes along with the responsibility of making sure we followed all health and safety in the kitchen and making sure each step was done correctly.

We had a huge amount of support leading up to the exam from Mr. Compton, which gave us the confidence to not get overwhelmed and remain calm throughout the exam while documenting all the processes for our NEA 2 document that makes up our grade.

We all felt a massive sense of relief once our exam was over, and we were proud of our achievements.

  • Rivers Academy vs Heston - Year 10 Boys Basketball

    Published 28/02/25

We played Rivers Academy at home on December 12.

It was an exciting and thrilling game, with both teams going back and forth throughout game.

In the first half Daksh and Yannis were both picking up points and grabbing rebounds. They were both driving to the basket and drawing fouls. Sadly, we ended up losing, by 4 points, 24-28.

Crucially, we were not clinical enough under the basket and we were unable to capitalise on our rebounds, in the penultimate quarter.

  • Year 9 'Speed Read'

    Published 17/02/25

The reading group trip to St Mark's School for the annual Speed Read event was a huge success!

As ever, the students behaved impeccably and engaged in all activities with maturity and genuine enthusiasm.

They represented Heston School incredibly well and it was such a treat to see them talking with such confidence to other students from across the borough about why they love reading and which book is their fav and why!

There were 62 students present! And they each spoke for one minute to every single student -  in the old school speed dating fashion - so it was a real effort and they did amazingly.

The host and poet, Tony Dallas, also gave a shout-out at the end of the event to Kacper and Izabella, asking them to stand for a round of applause for their noteworthy effort and excellent use of language and communication skills that deserves a special treat.

And lastly, as ever, a big thank you to Mr Green who makes all the fun of trips possible. THANK YOU so much for doing all the hard work behind the scenes.

    Kyra Bryan [LRC Manager]

Izabella: I really loved the trip, and thought it was really fun. I was at first fairly nervous about the speed reading task we were going to do, but I actually enjoyed talking to others about my book - especially to people who appreciate and love reading as much as I do. [And that is quite something coming from someone who hates interactive tasks]. Of course, because it was so interactive, we were told that it was a great way to make friends, but the last thing I was expecting was to end up giving my number over to a friend I'd just made so that we could stay in touch. I'm still shocked and can hardly believe I have just made a friend!

Avneet: Going to St Mark's School for this Speed Read event was very interesting. It helped me go out of my comfort zone and interact with others. I enjoyed hearing about other people's books and what they were about. I was lucky enough to go and really enjoyed it.

Venshin: The Speed Read trip we went on was spectacular. I had a lot of fun; I made new friends and got a lot of book recommendations that I think I will love. I loved telling others about my book, and I loved hearing people talk about their own books. The other students were very kind and friendly. I had an amazing time and would go again.

Snehdeep: I found the Hounslow Speed Read very enjoyable. It was a unique event with lots of people who were eager to engage with each other and talk about books.

Jasmine: I found the Heston Speed Read quite enjoyable. I liked talking to other people from different schools and seeing different books that I might enjoy. It was good that I got to explain one of my favourite books to many people, as I feel that they may find it quite enjoyable and enjoy it as much as I have.

Kacper: The trip was a cool experience to learn about new books and listen to which books people like enjoying reading.

Shazil: We went to St Mark's to talk about our books and promote them. We met people from other schools and talked to them. We also met a famous author to get us ready for the event.

Aiden: We went to St Mark's school for a Speed Read event. In my opinion, I quite enjoyed it. I met new people and found out some interesting facts about various books.

We also met a poet called Tony Dallas who told us what we were doing and made the event fun.

  • Sports Leaders Event

    Published 17/02/25

My experience at the Sports Leadership celebration was very interesting and fun. When we arrived at Springwest Academy, we participated in basketball and badminton. We also practised our sports leadership skills and put these into practice, organising small-sided games. After that, we had an assembly with all the other schools and listened to a very successful Paralympic athlete, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson. She told us about her experiences and her toughest moments in sport. I found this extremely motivating as she always had the spirit to continue no matter the hardship.

We then returned to more sports leaders’ activities in their sports hall. We had another assembly with a talk from another important guest speaker, local MP Seema Malhotra, about her past and what she accomplished in sport as well as the importance of youth sport in the local community.

Following that, myself and the other sports leaders spoke to local organisations which create and support new Hounslow youth zones and sport within the Borough. We also spoke to other people in charge of a new boxing organisation, St Mary’s university students and the Youth Development Officer for CB Hounslow Football Club.

  • Houses of Parliament Tour - Politics Trip

    Published 14/02/25

Visiting the Houses of Parliament was an invaluable exploration of British democracy, where tradition and history converge in a living institution. The Central Lobby, with its vaulted Gothic arches and statues of political titans such as Churchill, Thatcher, Attlee, and Lloyd George, served as a powerful testament to the ideologies and decisions that shaped modern Britain.

The House of Commons Chamber, instantly recognisable from media broadcasts, was even more compelling in person. The worn emerald-green benches resonated with the echoes of historic debates, while the suspended microphones symbolised the ongoing dynamic of democratic discourse.

This experience illuminated the intricacies of the legislative process, transforming theoretical knowledge into tangible reality. Walking through the corridors where critical laws have been debated and enacted, we gained a deeper understanding of Parliament's role in shaping society. The visit highlighted the evolution of suffrage and the continuous development of democratic governance, reinforcing that politics is not merely academic but a living, evolving institution.

  • National Apprenticeship Week 2025

    Published 14/02/25

    Mansour Celab - Apprenticeship Talk

To kick off National Apprenticeship Week, we were honoured to welcome Mansour Celab, a former student who achieved three A-Levels in 2023. He delivered a special assembly, sharing his inspiring journey to securing a Level 6 apprenticeship. Sixth Form students also had the opportunity to participate in a CV-building workshop during periods 1 and 2.

Mansour’s story of resilience was truly motivating. Despite facing rejection from over 30 applications, he persevered and is now securing £15 million contracts while balancing work and study every Friday.

It was wonderful to hear from Mansour and have the opportunity to ask questions about the best ways to prepare for interviews and assessment centres. He offered valuable advice on my CV and covering letter, which was really helpful. We also had the chance to review how he tailored his covering letter specifically for the apprenticeship, which provided great insight.

  • Year 7 go to Panto!

    Published 11/02/25

I went to the Arts Centre in Treaty Centre with about 30 students. We were watching a play about Robin Hood which was about two hours long. The play was very interesting and there were several other schools enjoying it as well. We were chosen to go as a reward because we demonstrated the Hestonian Values so well over the Autumn Term. We went in the afternoon and walked from school to the Arts Centre which I didn't mind because it was good exercise and I was with my friends. Overall, I really enjoyed the reward trip and it was really fun.

    Ezzah Asghar [7R]

I went to the Arts Centre to watch a play as a reward for demonstrating Heston Values. About 30 students from Year 7 and 8 were awarded for their good behaviour and for being an excellent role model to others in my year group. I enjoyed this trip as it was a wonderful reward to be watching a show of Robin Hood. The journey there was also great fun as we got to walk with some of our friends. We got back just as school finished. It was a great time! I really enjoyed it.
